A young boy crosses the stepping stones on his way to Goyt’s Bridge School which is just visible behind the gypsy caravan. The small one-room school was set up by Miss Dolores, the Spanish companion to Samuel Grimshawe’s wife, Jessie.

Taken from the packhorse bridge, this charming photo of a pupil heading towards the small school probably dates to around 1910. He's pictured crossing the stepping stones over the River Goyt.
The lane comes in from Goytsclough on the left and leads past Errwood Cottage along an ancient Roman road known as The Street, up to Pym Chair, Kettleshulme and Macclesfield. Click here for more on the school.
