Girl on the stepping stones

£12.00£18.00

This attractive painting of a young girl crossing the stepping stones with the packhorse bridge in the background featured on one of the most popular postcards of the Goyt Valley and probably dates to around 1910. The artist has taken some license with the scale of the girl – in reality she would have been far larger.

My favourite painting of the ever-popular view across the stepping stones towards the packhorse bridge, with Goytshead Farm at top right. It featured on the cover of Gerald Hancock's wonderful little book, 'Goyt Valley Romance'.

It is a copy of a printed postcard, so the colour screen shows when examined closely (enlarge the third image to examine). But personally I don't think it detracts from the gentle beauty of the image.  Click here for more on the stepping stones.
