This painting taken from a postcard published around 1920 shows both the old and new turnpikes between Buxton and Macclesfield as they snake towards the famous Cat & Fiddle Inn high on the horizon. Sat on bleak moorland close to the source of the River Goyt, it was often described as the highest pub in England, before someone discovered that the Tann Inn in North Yorkshire is 43 feet higher!
