I’ve found an old photo marked ‘Errwood Farm’ (above). But haven’t been able to find it marked on any of the old pre-reservoirs maps. But I’m now wondering whether it’s the buildings shown on the map below as ‘Errwood’. I think the curved stone walls on the fields opposite could be those marked ‘Barker Brow’ on the map.
I no longer live in Buxton, otherwise I’d nip out to check. But I think I can recall some stones in the grass around here which could well have been the ruins of Errwood Farm. So if anyone fancies a challenge, it would be great to answer Sarah’s quest to find where her grandparents had lived. And any photos would be an added bonus – particularly if you could get the same angle with the field walls in the distance.

Yes the map above shows Errwood Farm and the picture does look like the Farmhouse with Long Hill in the backgroung and the end of Calfhay Wood where the trees are visable over the roof, Barker Brow is further to the right. If you look at the map from 1842 (which I can email you as a jpeg) the house is marked with the porch defined as you can see in the photo. The farm buildings are to the right of the photo out of shot. Not sure if any ruins are left as I havent been down there in a while but I grew up about a mile away at Oldfield.
It was me who made the enquiry regarding Errwood Farm. My grandparents were the Dugdales who someone mentioned above as advertising stays and were the last residents. I am currently staying in Bakewell and am hoping to get there today for a look around. Thank you for the map and image. This definitely matches the photos I have at home.
Reading through your wonderful webpages I came across the query about Errwood Farm back in 2015. I regularly walk past their beautiful place and have a number of photos of it. I have also superimposed a picture of the old farm on to it so I could fully see what it would have been like.
